We have a daughter named Rebecca with Down’s Syndrome and deafness and we
wanted to get her a new dog. We called around and our vet recommended
California K-9 Academy.
In two weeks they adapted the learning style to someone who learns a little slower.
Our trainer, Yaiza, has been wonderful working with Rebecca and her dog,
Munchie, in breaking the situation into small steps in order for her to learn.
She had a really strong background in behavior modification and Rebecca is
becoming good at working with the dog. The verbal style of working with the
dog has also been adapted to use sign language and a clicker. It has made
Rebecca feel really good about the dog. Yaiza and Howie have been
wonderful and willing to take time to work with us and Rebecca’s slower
learning schedule. It’s been a wonderful experience for all of us. I felt she was
treated as an individual, paying close attention to her needs, but no different
than they would treat others. They really adapted the training and I believe
that anyone can be successful with their help. I’m just really thrilled with
what’s happened with Munchie and our daughter.
